About this chapter
What this chapter covers
Instance Configuration is 10% of the ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) exam. It covers adding applications and plugins to an instance, the difference between personalizing and customizing it, and the user interfaces people use to work with it.
Questions are short scenario or recall questions. Some are single answer and some are multiple select, and the multiple select ones state the count, such as "(Choose two.)". There are no exhibits.
How the topics fit together
An admin first adds the functionality the business needs, then tailors it for the organization, while each user adjusts their own view. Different groups of users reach the same data through different interfaces.
- Applications and plugins add features; plugins are activated, store applications are installed.
- Customization changes the instance for everyone; personalization changes it for one user.
- The interface a user sees depends on their job, not on a different database.
When a question asks who is affected by a change, decide first whether it is an admin change that affects everyone or a personal setting that affects one user.
