The Mock Exam ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website and services at themockexam.com.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Personal Information

When you create an account or use our services, we may collect the following personal information:

  • Account Information: Name, email address, and password when you register
  • Profile Information: Optional details you provide such as profile picture or additional contact information
  • Payment Information: Billing details processed securely through our payment providers, Stripe and PayPal. We do not store your full credit card number on our servers
  • Checkout Consent: If you are in the UK, the EU, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, the checkout asks you to confirm that your access should start immediately. When you tick that box, we record the time, your IP address, your browser type and the wording you agreed to, as evidence of your consent
  • Daily Practice Question Emails: If you sign up for the free daily practice question, we collect your email address, the certification you chose and, if you give it, your exam date. We also record the time, your IP address, your browser type and the wording you agreed to, as evidence of your consent
  • Communication Data: Information you provide when contacting our support team or submitting tickets

1.2 Usage Information

We automatically collect certain information when you access and use our platform:

  • Exam Data: Your exam attempts, answers, scores, completion times, and performance analytics
  • Device Information: Browser type, operating system, device type, and screen resolution
  • Log Data: IP address, access times, pages viewed, and referring URLs
  • Session Information: How you interact with our platform, including features used and time spent

Some of this information is recorded in our own server logs, which is necessary to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the platform. Information gathered through Google Analytics is collected only if you accept analytics cookies — see section 5.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

2.1 Service Delivery

  • Create and manage your account
  • Provide access to practice exams and study materials
  • Track your exam progress and generate performance analytics
  • Process subscription payments and manage billing
  • Show your exam results and history in your dashboard

2.2 Service Improvement

  • Analyze usage patterns to improve our platform and user experience
  • Develop new features and certification offerings
  • Monitor and maintain platform security and performance
  • Identify and fix technical issues

2.3 Communication

  • Respond to your support requests and inquiries
  • Send important account notifications (password resets, subscription updates)
  • Provide information about new certifications or features (with your consent)
  • Send transactional emails related to your purchases

2.4 Daily Practice Question Emails

At the end of a free exam preview you can ask for one free practice question a day for that certification. To sign up you enter your email address and press the sign-up button, whose wording tells you what you are agreeing to; if you are signed in, we use your account email address. Your first question is sent straight away.

Each email contains one practice question with its answer and explanation, and may include study tips, a reminder as your exam date approaches, and offers for our practice exams. We send at most one of these emails a day. If you gave an exam date, the day after it we ask how your exam went: if you tell us you passed, or do not answer within a week, the emails for that certification stop. They also stop automatically if you buy access to that certification, and you can stop them at any time with the one-click unsubscribe link in every email, without signing in.

2.5 Legal Basis

We process your information because it is needed to provide the service you signed up for (your account, exams and subscription), for our legitimate interests in keeping the platform secure and improving it, with your consent (analytics cookies and promotional emails), and to meet legal obligations (such as keeping payment records).

3. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate our platform. These services have their own privacy policies governing the use of your information:

3.1 Stripe and PayPal (Payment Processing)

We use Stripe and PayPal to process subscription payments. When you subscribe, your payment details are sent directly to the provider's secure servers and are entered on pages hosted by them, not by us. We only receive confirmation of successful payments and basic transaction details. Their privacy policies can be found at stripe.com/privacy and paypal.com/legalhub/privacy-full.

3.2 Google reCAPTCHA

We use Google reCAPTCHA on the sign-in, registration and support pages to protect them from spam and abuse. When you open one of these pages, reCAPTCHA loads from Google and may collect hardware and software information, such as device and browser data. Google's privacy policy can be found at policies.google.com/privacy.

3.3 Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which certifications visitors are looking for and how people move through the site. It is only loaded if you accept analytics cookies — if you reject them, or have not yet answered, the Google Analytics script is never requested and no analytics data is sent. When it is enabled, Google receives your IP address, the pages you view, and basic device information. See section 5.3 for details and how to change your choice. Google's privacy policy can be found at policies.google.com/privacy.

3.4 Google Fonts

Our pages load typefaces from Google Fonts. Your browser requests these files directly from Google, which means Google receives your IP address and browser details as part of that request. This happens on every page load and is not covered by the analytics choice described in section 5.

3.5 Postmark and Amazon SES (Email Delivery)

We use Postmark to send our emails: account and subscription emails, such as verification codes, password resets and payment notifications, and the daily practice question emails you sign up for. If Postmark is unavailable, the same emails are sent through Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) instead. These providers receive your email address and the content of the messages. Postmark's privacy policy can be found at postmarkapp.com/privacy-policy, and Amazon's at aws.amazon.com/privacy.

3.6 Amazon Web Services (Hosting)

Our servers and database are hosted by Amazon Web Services in its London (United Kingdom) region. AWS's privacy notice can be found at aws.amazon.com/privacy.

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Data Storage

Our servers and database are hosted by Amazon Web Services in London, United Kingdom. Some of the service providers listed in section 3 process your information in other countries, mainly the United States (see section 9). We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

4.2 Security Measures

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit using SSL/TLS protocols
  • Secure password hashing algorithms
  • Regular security assessments and updates
  • Access controls limiting employee access to personal data
  • Secure authentication mechanisms

While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Cookies and Browser Storage

We do not set any cookies from our own servers. To keep you signed in and to remember where you are in an exam, we store a small amount of data in your browser's local and session storage instead. The only cookies placed on this site come from Google Analytics, and only if you allow them.

5.1 Essential Storage (always active)

These items are required for the platform to work at all and cannot be switched off:

  • Sign-in token, account details, and role — keeps you logged in as you move between pages
  • Active exam, exam selection, and checkout status — so that refreshing the page, or returning from the payment provider, does not lose your progress
  • Your cookie choice — records whether you accepted or rejected analytics, so that we do not ask you again on every visit

5.2 Functional Storage (always active)

A cached copy of the site's branding and theme settings, so that pages render immediately and without flickering when you arrive.

5.3 Analytics Cookies (off unless you accept)

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure how the site is used. It is not loaded at all until you choose Accept on the cookie banner shown on your first visit. If you choose Reject, the Google Analytics script is never requested. If you previously accepted and later change to Reject, analytics reporting stops immediately and the analytics cookies already placed on your device (_ga and related) are deleted.

5.4 Changing Your Mind

You can change your choice at any time using the Cookies link in the site footer. Rejecting analytics does not affect your account, your exams, your subscription, or any feature of the platform. You can also clear stored data through your browser settings, although clearing the essential items listed in 5.1 will sign you out and lose any exam in progress.

5.5 Third-Party Cookies

When you complete a payment, or open the sign-in, registration or support page, Stripe, PayPal, and Google may set their own cookies under their own domains, governed by their own privacy policies. These are outside our control — see section 3.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

6.1 Access and Portability

You can access your personal information through your account dashboard. This includes your profile data, exam history, and subscription details.

6.2 Correction

You can update your account information at any time through your profile settings.

6.3 Account Closure and Deletion

To close your account, create a support ticket and we will deactivate it so it can no longer be used. If you also want your personal data deleted, say so in your ticket and we will delete it, except information we must keep by law, such as payment records.

6.4 Subscription Management

You can manage your subscription preferences, including cancellation, directly from your dashboard.

6.5 Communication Preferences

You can stop promotional emails at any time. Every daily practice question email has a one-click unsubscribe link that works without signing in, and the change takes effect immediately. You can also contact support. Unsubscribing does not affect account or payment emails, which we need to send to provide the service.

6.6 Analytics Consent

You can accept or reject analytics cookies at any time using the Cookies link in the site footer. Consent is never required to use the platform, and withdrawing it is as easy as giving it.

6.7 Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country; in the United Kingdom this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information based on the following criteria:

  • Active Accounts: Data is retained while your account remains active
  • Inactive Accounts: We do not delete inactive accounts automatically. Your account and its data are kept until you ask us to delete them (see 6.3)
  • Exam Records: Your exam history and performance data are retained to provide you with progress tracking
  • Payment Records: Transaction records are retained as required by financial regulations
  • Checkout Consent Records: Kept for as long as the payment records they relate to
  • Daily Practice Question Subscriptions: Kept while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe we keep the record, including the evidence of your consent and of your unsubscribing, so we can show you agreed and make sure you are not emailed again. You can ask us to delete it at any time
  • Support Tickets: Communication records are retained for quality assurance and dispute resolution

8. Children's Privacy

The Mock Exam is not intended for children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete such information.

9. International Data Transfers

Our servers are in the United Kingdom. Some of our service providers process your information in other countries, mainly the United States: Stripe and PayPal (payments), Google (reCAPTCHA, Analytics and Fonts) and Postmark (email). When your information is transferred to these countries, it is protected by safeguards recognised under data protection law, such as adequacy decisions, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or standard contractual clauses.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

11. Contact Us

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or our privacy practices, please contact us:

  • Email: support@themockexam.com
  • Support Portal: Create a ticket through your dashboard

We will respond to your inquiry within a reasonable timeframe.
