About this chapter
What this chapter covers
Application User Interface is 20% of the ServiceNow Certified Application Developer exam. It covers what users see and what happens when they work with a record: how forms are laid out, which fields a table and form carry, the scripts that run in the browser and on the server, and the record producer that gives requesters a simple way in.
Questions are short scenarios, recall questions or code-reading questions: a requirement is described, or a few lines of script are shown, and you pick the feature, script type or method that fits. Some are single-answer and some are multiple-select questions that state the count, such as "(Choose two.)". There are no exhibits.
How the topics fit together
The form is where users meet your data, so its layout and fields come first. Client side logic then shapes the form while the user works, server side logic runs when records are read or saved, and a record producer offers a simpler entry point that still creates records in your table.
- Form questions ask which tool changes the layout, the view or a field's definition.
- Client side questions ask which client script type or g_form method fits, or whether a UI policy would do the job without code.
- Server side questions ask which business rule timing, GlideRecord method or script include type fits.
- Record producer questions ask how variables reach fields and how users find the producer.
For any behavior question, first ask where it must run. Shaping a form for the user is client side; anything that must hold for every save, import or API call is server side.
