About this chapter

What this chapter covers

The People domain is about leading, supporting and communicating with the individuals and groups who make a project succeed. Tools and schedules matter, but projects are delivered by people, and most real project trouble starts with people problems.

The chapter covers how to build a shared vision, resolve conflict, lead and develop a team, engage and align stakeholders, move knowledge around and communicate well. Each topic is shown for predictive, agile and hybrid ways of working, so you can recognize the right behavior whichever approach a question describes.

How the topics fit together

The pages follow the natural order of work with people, from agreeing a goal to keeping everyone informed.

Visionshared goalTeam leadershiptrust and motivationConflictresolved earlyStakeholdersengaged and alignedCommunicationplan and knowledge
  • Common vision gives the team and stakeholders one picture of success.
  • Leading the team covers servant leadership, team stages and motivation.
  • Conflict management shows which technique to choose and when to escalate.
  • Stakeholder engagement and expectations cover analysis, engagement levels and negotiation.
  • Knowledge transfer and communication keep information flowing and prevent loss of learning.
Exam tip

In this domain, the best answer is often the one that talks to the people involved first and builds understanding, before using formal authority or escalating.

How to use these pages

Each topic page has the same shape, so you can skim for what you need.

  • What it is: the idea in plain words.
  • How it works: the mechanism, with diagrams and examples.
  • What to remember for the exam: the facts to memorize.
  • Common mistakes: the classic traps.
  • Check yourself: three questions to test your understanding.

Read the scenario wording carefully, because words such as "self organizing", "sprint" or "baseline" tell you which approach applies. Then pick the behavior that fits it, for example facilitation for agile teams and a formal escalation path for a governed predictive project.
