About this chapter
What this chapter covers
Huawei Virtualization Platform Management and Usage is 25% of the Huawei HCIA-Cloud Computing H13-511 exam, the largest chapter. It covers how FusionCompute virtualizes compute (clusters, HA, DRS, DPM, memory overcommitment, QoS), storage (storage resources, datastores, virtual disks, thin provisioning, snapshots), and network (DVS, port groups, uplinks), and how the platform is managed day to day.
Questions are single-answer, multiple-answer without a stated count, true/false, drag and drop and typed fill-in-the-blank, often "Which of the following statements is true?". This exam has no exhibit figures, so questions name a feature, setting or object and ask what it does, what it needs, or which statements about it are correct.
It has 4 outline topics, and four pages cover them, one per topic.
How the topics fit together
A VM needs three kinds of resource: CPU and memory from a host, a virtual disk from a datastore, and a virtual NIC on a port group. Management then ties them together with templates, monitoring and alarms.
Many questions combine two areas, for example HA and live migration both depend on shared storage, so read the four pages in order.
For every feature, learn what it needs before it works. HA and live migration need shared storage, DPM needs DRS, and memory overcommitment works best with the Tools installed in the VM.
How to use these pages
Each topic page has the same shape, so you can skim for what you need.
- What it is: the idea in plain words.
- How it works: the mechanism, with tables and examples.
- What to remember for the exam: the facts to memorize.
- Common mistakes: the classic traps.
- Check yourself: three questions to test your understanding.
Read each component table and say what each row does before reading the explanation. The exam often names a component or feature and asks which job it performs.
