About this chapter

What this chapter covers

Service Catalog and Request Management is 25% of the ServiceNow CIS-ITSM exam. It covers how the catalog is built (catalogs, categories, items and the request records), how an implementer scopes it with the customer, how items, variables, order guides and record producers are configured, and how fulfillment flows and integrations deliver what was ordered.

Questions are short scenario or recall questions: a customer requirement is described and you pick the feature or record that fits. Some are single answer; others are multiple select and state the count, such as "(Choose two.)". There are no exhibits.

  • Architecture is the structure: catalogs, categories, items and the Request, Requested Item and Catalog Task records an order creates.
  • Scoping and requirements decides which services go in first, who can order them, who approves and who fulfills.
  • Configuration builds the items: variables, variable sets, catalog UI policies, user criteria, order guides and record producers.
  • Fulfillment and integrations attach a flow in Workflow Studio and connect the catalog to other systems and channels.
Exam tip

Most questions in this chapter are "which tool fits". Something to order is a catalog item, a bundle is an order guide, a form that creates a non request record is a record producer, and repeated questions are a variable set.
