About this chapter
What this chapter covers
Configuration Management Database is 5% of the ServiceNow CIS-ITSM exam. It covers the CMDB from the ITSM implementer's point of view: what a CI, a class and a relationship are, which CI and service fields the ITSM processes use, and how CI data drives impact, assignment, risk and conflict checks.
Questions are short scenario or recall questions: a requirement is described and you pick the feature or field that fits. Some are single answer; others are multiple select and state the count, such as "(Choose two.)". There are no exhibits.
How the topics fit together
- CIs and classes are the records; relationships connect them.
- Services and offerings are the CSDM records that tell the business what is affected.
- ITSM processes point at those records on the task form and in related lists.
- Good CI data is what makes impact, risk, conflict and routing results correct.
The CIS-Data Foundations certification is a prerequisite for this exam. Here you only need the CMDB as ITSM uses it, not Discovery or CMDB governance in depth.
