About this chapter

What this chapter covers

Manage Identity, Access, and Governance is 20 to 25% of the SC-500 exam. It has three skill groups: securing access to resources with Microsoft Entra ID, securing secrets and keys with Azure Key Vault, and implementing governance to enforce security and regulatory compliance.

Identity is the first line of defense in the cloud. These questions test whether you can grant the right access, for the right time, under the right conditions, and prove the environment stays compliant.

How the topics fit together

IdentityEntra ID, MFA, Conditional AccessPrivileged accessPIM, rolesSecretsKey VaultGovernanceAzure Policy, locks, compliance

People and workloads sign in with Microsoft Entra ID, protected by MFA and Conditional Access. Powerful roles are granted just in time with PIM. Secrets and keys live in Key Vault. Azure Policy, resource locks and Defender for Cloud keep resources configured securely and show compliance.

Exam tip

SC-500 is about implementing and configuring controls. Expect "which setting, policy or role meets this requirement" more than design or strategy questions.
