About this chapter

What this chapter covers

This chapter covers the day to day work of an administrator who runs Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents. It starts with what each Copilot offering includes and how it is paid for. It then covers assigning licenses, billing policies, usage reports, prompts, and the full life of an agent from creation to approval to monitoring.

It is worth 25 to 30% of the Microsoft AB-900 exam. Questions describe a simple admin need, such as "give the sales team Copilot" or "see which agents are waiting for approval", and ask which tool, setting or option fits.

How the topics fit together

The pages follow the order an administrator meets these tasks: understand the offering, decide how to pay, switch it on, measure it, then govern agents.

Licensing and billing decide who can use Copilot features. Usage reports show whether people actually do. Agents add one more layer: someone creates them, an administrator approves and scopes them, and the admin centers keep watching them.

  • Built in capabilities and licensing models compares Copilot Chat with Microsoft 365 Copilot, monthly licenses with pay as you go, and the features an admin can switch on or off.
  • Researcher, Analyst and custom agents covers what each agent is for.
  • Assigning licenses and billing policies covers license assignment and pay as you go billing policies.
  • Usage, adoption and prompts covers the Copilot usage report, Copilot Analytics and the prompt library.
  • Managing agents covers user access, creating agents, the approval process and monitoring.
Exam tip

When a question asks who can use something, think licenses and settings. When it asks what it costs or who pays, think billing policy and Azure subscription. When it asks about an agent waiting for review, think Requests.
