About this chapter
What this chapter covers
Configuration and Setup is 15% of the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator exam. It covers company settings, declarative UI configuration, user setup and maintenance, organization security controls, the sharing model, and when to use a custom profile or permission set.
Questions are mostly scenarios: a company has a requirement, and you choose the declarative feature or setting that meets it. Writing code is never the expected answer on this exam.
How the topics fit together
An administrator first sets up the org itself, then the people who use it, then what each person can do and see. Profiles and permission sets control what users can do; the sharing model controls which records they can see.
Keep object permissions and record access apart. A profile or permission set decides whether a user can read accounts at all; org-wide defaults, roles and sharing rules decide which account records they can see.
