About this chapter

What this chapter covers

Maintain a data analytics solution is 25 to 30% of the Microsoft DP-600 exam. It has two skill groups: implementing security and governance, and maintaining the analytics development lifecycle.

Security and governance covers workspace roles, item permissions, row-level, column-level, object-level and file-level security, sensitivity labels and endorsement. The lifecycle group covers Git integration, Power BI Desktop projects (.pbip), deployment pipelines, impact analysis, the XMLA endpoint and reusable assets such as templates, .pbids files and shared semantic models.

Questions are mostly short scenarios: you pick the role, permission, file type or tool that meets a requirement with the least privilege or the least effort.

How the topics fit together

Workspace rolesItem permissionsRow, column and file securityLabels and endorsementGit and .pbipDeployment pipelinesDev, Test, ProdImpact analysisXMLA and reusable assets

The first chain narrows access from the whole workspace down to single rows, then marks how trusted and how sensitive each item is. The second chain moves content safely from a developer's machine to production and keeps it reusable.

Exam tip

When two answers both work, DP-600 usually wants the one that grants the least access. A Viewer role or a single item permission beats Contributor when the user only needs to read.

How to use these pages

Each topic page has the same shape, so you can skim for what you need.

  • What it is: the idea in plain words.
  • How it works: the mechanism, with tables and code examples.
  • What to remember for the exam: the facts to memorise and how questions are phrased.
  • Common mistakes: the classic traps.
  • Check yourself: three questions to test your understanding.
