About this chapter

What this chapter covers

Implement Machine Learning Model Lifecycle and Operations is 25 to 30% of the Microsoft AI-300 exam. It is the largest chapter and has four skill groups: orchestrating model training, model registration and versioning, deploying models for production, and monitoring and maintaining models.

It follows one model from the first experiment to retirement: track runs with MLflow, train with jobs, sweeps and pipelines, register the best model, deploy it to a managed online or batch endpoint, roll it out safely, and watch it for drift.

Questions describe a situation (a slow training job, a model that must be rolled back, drifting input data) and ask which feature or command fits. Expect Azure CLI v2 YAML and Python SDK v2 snippets.

How the topics fit together

Each stage produces something the next stage needs: tracked runs pick the best model, the registry holds its versions, endpoints serve a version, and monitoring signals decide when to train again.

Exam tip

Learn the pairs that exams like to contrast: real time versus batch endpoints, grid versus random versus Bayesian sampling, and data drift versus prediction drift.

How to use these pages

Each topic page has the same shape, so you can skim for what you need.

  • What it is: the idea in plain words.
  • How it works: the mechanism, with tables and examples.
  • What to remember for the exam: the facts to memorise and how questions are phrased.
  • Common mistakes: the classic traps.
  • Check yourself: three questions to test your understanding.
