How the topics fit together
The fundamentals explain why stateful firewalls cannot rely on VRRP alone and how VGMP and HRP fix that. The networking page then applies those ideas to real topologies and configuration.
A router pair can switch over with VRRP alone, but a firewall pair must also carry its session table across, or every existing connection breaks.
Keep the three protocols apart. VRRP gives the virtual gateway address, VGMP decides which firewall is active, and HRP copies configuration and sessions from the active to the standby.
