About this chapter
What this chapter covers
Server Basics is 2% of the Huawei HCIA-Cloud Computing H13-511 exam. It covers what a server is, the server form factors and CPU architectures, the main hardware components, and two key server technologies: RAID for local disk protection and the BMC for remote management.
Questions are single-answer, multiple-answer without a stated count, true/false, drag and drop and typed fill-in-the-blank, often "Which of the following statements is true?". This exam has no exhibit figures, so every question is plain text.
It has 2 outline topics, and one page covers them.
How the topics fit together
Servers are the compute layer of every cloud. A virtualization host is just a server, so its hardware, its disk protection and its remote management decide how reliable the VMs on top will be.
Learn the components first, then the two technologies that protect and manage them.
Learn the RAID table by heart: minimum disks, usable capacity and how many failed disks each level survives. RAID questions are short and come up often.
How to use these pages
Each topic page has the same shape, so you can skim for what you need.
- What it is: the idea in plain words.
- How it works: the mechanism, with tables and examples.
- What to remember for the exam: the facts to memorize.
- Common mistakes: the classic traps.
- Check yourself: three questions to test your understanding.
For each RAID level, work out the usable capacity of a small example array before reading on. The exam often gives a disk count and asks how much space remains.
