About this chapter
What this chapter covers
Wireless Network Hacking is 5% of the EC-Council CEH v13 312-50 exam. It covers how Wi-Fi networks are built, how their encryption evolved, which attacks target them, how an attacker works through a wireless network step by step, and how defenders stop it. Bluetooth has its own section.
Questions are single-answer multiple choice. You are usually asked to recognize a technique, name the tool that performs a task, or pick the countermeasure that fits.
It has eight outline topics, grouped into three pages.
How the topics fit together
The chapter moves from the basics to the attack and then to the defense.
- Concepts and encryption explain what you are protecting and why each standard replaced the last.
- Threats, methodology and tools show how an attacker discovers, captures, cracks and enters a network.
- Bluetooth and defenses cover the short range attacks and the controls that counter all wireless attacks.
Learn the encryption ladder in order (WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA3) with one weakness and one fix for each. Many questions are really about that ladder.
How to use these pages
Each topic page has the same shape, so you can skim for what you need.
- What it is: the idea in plain words.
- How it works: the mechanism, with diagrams and example commands.
- What to remember for the exam: the facts to memorize.
- Common mistakes: the classic traps.
- Check yourself: three questions to test your understanding.
Try to match each short scenario to its attack category before reading the answer. The exam often describes symptoms and asks for the attack name or the best fix.
