About this chapter
What this chapter covers
Mobile Platform, IoT, and OT Hacking is 10% of the EC-Council CEH v13 312-50 exam. It covers three families of devices outside the classic server and desktop: smartphones and tablets, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and operational technology (OT) such as industrial control systems.
Questions are single-answer multiple choice. You are asked to recognize the attack, the platform feature or the best countermeasure, and to separate IT concepts from OT concepts.
It has thirteen outline topics, grouped into four pages.
How the topics fit together
Each family follows the same pattern: concepts, attacks, a hacking methodology and then countermeasures.
- Mobile adds app stores, rooting and jailbreaking, and management through MDM.
- IoT brings weak default credentials, constrained hardware and many radio protocols.
- OT adds safety and availability needs, long lifecycles and special protocols such as Modbus.
The same few ideas return in every section: change defaults, patch, encrypt, segment and monitor. If an answer offers one of these, check it first.
How to use these pages
Each topic page has the same shape, so you can skim for what you need.
- What it is: the idea in plain words.
- How it works: the mechanism, with diagrams and example commands.
- What to remember for the exam: the facts to memorize.
- Common mistakes: the classic traps.
- Check yourself: three questions to test your understanding.
Try to match each short scenario to its attack category before reading the answer. The exam often describes symptoms and asks for the attack name or the best fix.
