About this chapter

What this chapter covers

Developing, Sharing, and Maintaining AI/BI Genie Agents (Genie Spaces) is 12% of the Databricks Data Analyst Associate exam. It covers the natural language experience that lets business users ask questions of governed data and get SQL generated answers.

The chapter has two parts: what a Genie Agent is and how an analyst builds one, then how it is shared, monitored and improved over time. Genie Agents were formerly called Genie spaces, and the exam guide writes "Genie Agents (Genie spaces)".

Questions are mostly short scenarios in which the stated requirement (who may ask, who may edit, how accurate answers must be, where users work) decides the answer. They are single-answer multiple choice, and short SQL is shown as text. There are no exhibits.

How the topics fit together

Curate dataUnity Catalog tables and viewsAdd contextinstructions, example SQLSharepermissions, links, appsMonitor and benchmarkImprove context

A Genie Agent is only as good as the data and context its author gives it. After sharing, the author watches real questions, measures accuracy with benchmarks and feeds what they learn back into the instructions and trusted assets.

  • Setup questions ask which data, warehouse, instructions and example queries an agent needs.
  • Trusted asset questions ask what makes an answer verified and which assets count.
  • Permission questions ask which permission level lets a user ask, edit or monitor.
  • Improvement questions ask how feedback, monitoring and benchmarks guide changes.
Exam tip

When a question says "answers are wrong for a business term", the fix is almost always more context (an instruction, an example SQL query or a better column description), not a bigger warehouse.
