About this chapter
What this chapter covers
Basic AI Concepts Related to Cybersecurity is 17% of the CompTIA SecAI+ CY0-001 exam. It gives you the vocabulary the rest of the exam assumes: what kinds of artificial intelligence (AI) exist, how models are trained and prompted, why the data behind them must be protected, and how security fits into every stage of an AI system's life.
It covers AI types and techniques (machine learning, deep learning, transformers, generative adversarial networks, natural language processing, large and small language models, training methods, fine-tuning, pruning, quantization and prompt engineering), data security for AI (cleansing, verification, lineage, provenance, integrity, augmentation, balancing, data types, watermarking, retrieval-augmented generation, vector storage and embeddings) and the AI life cycle (from business use case to monitoring and feedback, with human oversight throughout).
The exam has a maximum of 60 multiple-choice and performance-based questions in 60 minutes. Questions are vendor-neutral and usually close with "Which of the following ...?", so learn to recognise each concept from a short scenario rather than from a product name.
How the topics fit together
A model is only as trustworthy as the data it learns from and the instructions it receives. The life cycle page then ties both together, showing where checks and human review belong from the first business case to retirement.
Many questions in this domain are "compare and contrast". Build a one-line difference for each pair, such as supervised versus unsupervised, lineage versus provenance, or system prompt versus user prompt.
How to use these pages
Each topic page has the same shape, so you can skim for what you need.
- What it is: the idea in plain words.
- How it works: the mechanism, with tables and code examples.
- What to remember for the exam: the facts to memorise and how questions are phrased.
- Common mistakes: the classic traps.
- Check yourself: three questions to test your understanding.
