Understanding and Applying the Scrum Framework

An Increment is a concrete stepping stone toward the Product Goal.
  • A. True Correct answer
  • B. False

True. The Scrum Guide 2020 describes an Increment as a concrete stepping stone toward the Product Goal. Each Increment moves the Scrum Team closer to the Product Goal, which is its long-term objective.

Which three pillars make up empiricism in Scrum?
  • A. Transparency, commitment, review
  • B. Visibility, inspection, retrospection
  • C. Transparency, inspection, adaptation Correct answer
  • D. Planning, inspection, adaptation

Option C is correct because the Scrum Guide 2020 says empirical process control rests on three pillars: transparency, inspection and adaptation. Commitment is a Scrum Value, not a pillar, and visibility, retrospection and planning are not pillars of empiricism.

Each Developer applies a personal idea of what "done" means, so the Product Owner cannot judge how much work is truly finished. Which pillar of empiricism is directly compromised?
  • A. Inspection
  • B. Transparency Correct answer
  • C. Commitment
  • D. Adaptation

Option B is correct because the Scrum Guide says significant aspects of the process must be visible to those responsible for the outcome, which requires a common standard. Without a shared Definition of Done, the work is not understood the same way by everyone, so transparency is compromised. Inspection and adaptation depend on transparency, so they suffer as a consequence rather than being the pillar directly broken.

Which set lists the five Scrum Values?
  • A. Courage, Focus, Honesty, Respect, Commitment
  • B. Commitment, Focus, Openness, Respect, Courage Correct answer
  • C. Commitment, Focus, Openness, Respect, Collaboration
  • D. Commitment, Transparency, Openness, Respect, Courage

Option B is correct because the Scrum Guide 2020 names the five Scrum Values as Commitment, Focus, Openness, Respect and Courage. The other sets swap in Honesty, Collaboration or Transparency, which are not Scrum Values.

How does the Scrum Guide describe the size of a Scrum Team?
  • A. Up to 15 people
  • B. Between 5 and 9 people
  • C. Typically 10 or fewer people Correct answer
  • D. Between 3 and 5 people

Option C is correct because the Scrum Guide 2020 says the Scrum Team is small enough to remain nimble and large enough to complete significant work within a Sprint, typically 10 or fewer people. It gives no minimum of 3 or 5 and no fixed range of 5 to 9, and 15 is above the guidance.

Which two activities take place in the Sprint Review? (Choose two.)
  • A. Identifying improvements to the team's processes and tools
  • B. Presenting the results of the work to key stakeholders Correct answer
  • C. Discussing progress toward the Product Goal Correct answer
  • D. Examining how the Definition of Done was applied during the Sprint
  • E. Approving the Increment for release to customers

Options B and C are correct because the Sprint Review is where the Scrum Team presents the results of its work to key stakeholders and discusses progress toward the Product Goal. Option A belongs to the Sprint Retrospective, option D is a Retrospective topic (the Definition of Done is inspected there), and option E is wrong because the Scrum Guide gives the Sprint Review no approval or sign-off role.

A Scrum Team and its stakeholders are about to hold a Sprint Review. Which two statements about it match the Scrum Guide? (Choose two.)
  • A. It is attended by the Scrum Team and key stakeholders Correct answer
  • B. It is a working session, not just a presentation Correct answer
  • C. It is a formal gate the Increment must pass before release
  • D. It is held after the Sprint Retrospective so that process changes can be shown
  • E. It is attended by the stakeholders and Product Owner while the Developers start the next Sprint's work

Options A and B are correct because the Scrum Guide says the Scrum Team presents results to key stakeholders and that the Sprint Review is a working session, not just a presentation. Option C is wrong because it is not a gate, option D reverses the order (the Retrospective follows the Review), and option E is wrong because the Developers attend as part of the Scrum Team.

Developing People and Teams

The Scrum Master is accountable for establishing Scrum as defined in the Scrum Guide.
  • A. True Correct answer
  • B. False

The Scrum Master is accountable for establishing Scrum as defined in the Scrum Guide. They do this by helping everyone on the Scrum Team and in the organization understand Scrum theory and practice.

Who decides how a Product Backlog item is turned into an Increment, according to the Scrum Guide?
  • A. The Scrum Master
  • B. The Developers Correct answer
  • C. The Product Owner
  • D. The Scrum Master and Product Owner together

Option B is correct because the Scrum Guide says the Developers are committed to creating any aspect of a usable Increment each Sprint and decide how to turn Product Backlog items into it. The Scrum Master and Product Owner do not decide this for them.

What makes a Scrum Team self-managing?
  • A. Its line manager approves how each task is done
  • B. Its stakeholders choose the work for each Sprint
  • C. It decides internally who does what, when, and how Correct answer
  • D. Its Scrum Master assigns work to each member

Option C is correct because a self-managing Scrum Team decides internally who does what, when, and how. Line managers, stakeholders, or the Scrum Master assigning work would remove that self-management.

Which composition does the Scrum Guide give for a Scrum Team?
  • A. One Scrum Master, one Product Owner, and Developers Correct answer
  • B. A Product Owner, a team lead, and Developers
  • C. Developers and a Scrum Master, with the Product Owner outside the team
  • D. Developers grouped into sub-teams by specialty under a Scrum Master

Option A is correct because the Scrum Guide defines a Scrum Team as one Scrum Master, one Product Owner, and Developers. There are no sub-teams or hierarchies, and the Product Owner is part of the team, not outside it.

Which of these is an accountability of the Developers in a Scrum Team?
  • A. Creating a usable Increment each Sprint Correct answer
  • B. Establishing Scrum as defined in the Guide
  • C. Maximizing the value of the product
  • D. Ordering the Product Backlog

Option A is correct because the Developers are accountable for creating a usable Increment every Sprint. Establishing Scrum is the Scrum Master's accountability, while maximizing value and ordering the Product Backlog belong to the Product Owner.

Which two statements about the Daily Scrum are correct according to the Scrum Guide? (Choose two.)
  • A. It is held at the same time and place each day to reduce complexity Correct answer
  • B. The Product Owner attends to approve changes to the Sprint Backlog
  • C. It is a 15-minute event for the Developers of the Scrum Team Correct answer
  • D. The Scrum Master asks each Developer for a status update
  • E. Its time varies to suit each Developer's availability

Options A and C are correct because the Scrum Guide 2020 says the Daily Scrum is a 15-minute event for the Developers of the Scrum Team, held at the same time and place every working day to reduce complexity. The Product Owner and Scrum Master are not required to attend (Option B and D), and a varying time (Option E) would add the complexity the fixed slot removes.

The Sprint Retrospective closes the Sprint. Which two statements describe what it is for? (Choose two.)
  • A. Planning ways to increase quality and effectiveness Correct answer
  • B. Inspecting the Increment with stakeholders and adapting the Product Backlog
  • C. Inspecting how the Sprint went regarding individuals, processes and tools Correct answer
  • D. Forecasting which Product Backlog items fit into the next Sprint
  • E. Evaluating each Developer's performance for the Product Owner

Options A and C are correct because the Scrum Guide 2020 says the purpose of the Sprint Retrospective is to plan ways to increase quality and effectiveness, and the Scrum Team inspects how the last Sprint went with regard to individuals, interactions, processes, tools and the Definition of Done. Option B describes the Sprint Review, Option D belongs to Sprint Planning, and the Retrospective is not a performance evaluation of individuals (Option E).

Managing Products with Agility

The Scrum Team and key stakeholders inspect the outcome of the Sprint during the Sprint Review.
  • A. True Correct answer
  • B. False

The statement is true. The Scrum Team and key stakeholders collaborate during the Sprint Review to inspect what was accomplished in the Sprint and what has changed in the environment, and then decide what to do next.

A new stakeholder asks which artifact is the single source of work undertaken by the Scrum Team. What should the Scrum Master point to?
  • A. The Sprint Backlog
  • B. The Increment
  • C. The Product Backlog Correct answer
  • D. The Sprint Goal

Option C is correct because the Product Backlog is the single source of work undertaken by the Scrum Team. The Sprint Backlog covers only the current Sprint, the Increment is the delivered work, and the Sprint Goal is a single objective for the Sprint.

Midway through the Sprint, the Product Owner and Developers sit together to break large Product Backlog items into smaller, more precise ones and add detail. Which activity is this?
  • A. Sprint Retrospective
  • B. Product Backlog refinement Correct answer
  • C. Product Backlog ordering
  • D. Sprint Planning

Option B is correct because Product Backlog refinement is the ongoing activity of breaking items into smaller, more precise ones and adding detail. Planning selects work for the Sprint, ordering sequences items, and the Retrospective inspects how the team worked.

The Scrum Team needs a single long-term objective that guides what goes into the Product Backlog across many Sprints. What is it called?
  • A. The Definition of Done
  • B. The Product Goal Correct answer
  • C. The Product Vision
  • D. The Sprint Goal

Option B is correct because the Product Goal is the long-term objective of the Scrum Team, and the Product Backlog emerges to fulfil it. The Sprint Goal covers only a single Sprint and the Definition of Done is a quality standard, not an objective.

A Product Owner assigned size estimates to every Product Backlog item so the release date would match stakeholder expectations. What should change according to the Scrum Guide?
  • A. The Scrum Team sizes, led by the Product Owner
  • B. The Scrum Master sizes the items for the team
  • C. The Product Owner sizes, with Scrum Master review
  • D. The Developers size the items they will do Correct answer

Option D is correct because the Developers are responsible for sizing the items they will do. The Product Owner may help them understand trade-offs but does not size items, and neither does a Scrum Team led by the Product Owner, nor the Scrum Master.

A new Product Owner asks which two accountabilities the Scrum Guide gives to the role. (Choose two.)
  • A. Removing impediments that block the Scrum Team
  • B. Ordering the items in the Product Backlog Correct answer
  • C. Ensuring each Increment meets the Definition of Done
  • D. Creating the Developers' plan for the Sprint
  • E. Maximizing the value of the product Correct answer

Options B and E are correct because the Scrum Guide makes the Product Owner accountable for maximizing the value of the product and for effective Product Backlog management, which includes ordering the items. Removing impediments is the Scrum Master's service, the Definition of Done is upheld by the Developers (who also create the Sprint plan), so A, C and D do not describe Product Owner accountabilities.
