About this chapter

What this chapter covers

Cutting-edge AI Applications is 5% of the Huawei HCIA-AI H13-311 exam. It covers six application areas where AI is used today: voice assistants, smart homes, intelligent vehicles, intelligent recommendation, intelligent robots and AI for science (AI4Science).

Questions are single-answer, multiple-answer without a stated count, true/false and typed fill-in-the-blank, often "Which of the following statements is true?". This exam has no exhibit figures and no drag and drop, so every question is plain text.

It has 6 outline topics, and one page covers them.

How the topics fit together

Each application combines the same building blocks from earlier chapters: perception (speech, vision, sensors), understanding and decision making (machine learning and large models), and action (speaking, controlling a device, driving, moving).

Voice assistants, smart homes and vehicles focus on perception and control. Recommendation focuses on prediction from user data, robots on acting in the physical world, and AI4Science on solving research problems.

Exam tip

For each application, learn its processing chain in order. Questions often ask which step comes first, such as speech recognition before language understanding in a voice assistant, or recall before ranking in a recommender.

How to use these pages

Each topic page has the same shape, so you can skim for what you need.

  • What it is: the idea in plain words.
  • How it works: the mechanism, with tables and examples.
  • What to remember for the exam: the facts to memorize.
  • Common mistakes: the classic traps.
  • Check yourself: three questions to test your understanding.

For each application, name the AI technologies it relies on, such as speech recognition, computer vision or reinforcement learning. The exam often asks which technology belongs to which scenario.
